About

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you” Maya Angelou

A little about Me

I believe being seen and heard can transform us and allow growth and healing to begin. I have been on my own personal journey of exploration for the past decade and discovered counselling during a difficult time; I was searching for understanding, compassion and support, something I found difficult to find in the world. I needed to make sense of my experiences in a safe space, to get unstuck and move forward with my life. Working through my own personal struggles is where I found my purpose, to help guide others on their personal growth journey. I truly believe that it is during our most difficult times that provide us with necessary ‘compost’ to learn and grow. I particularly enjoy working in and with nature to help foster connection and healing.

Approach

Compassion, Curiosity, Collaboration

It is the relationship that heals. I am here to listen with empathy, not judgement. I am an integrative counsellor with training in Person-centred, Gestalt and CBT schools of psychotherapy. I offer a neuro diverse-affirming practice and am able to provide creative interventions tailored to your individuals needs. I will work with you to build a trusting relationship that allows you a safe space to freely explore. Therapy is a process guided by you; I am here to facilitate by offering you suggestions and ways of working to experiment with what works best for you. I like to meet the person as a whole; I am interested in listening to both the mind and the body to facilitate integration and connection.

I am curious about how we can become more authentic, figuring out what that is for each of us isn’t an easy process; having someone alongside you to provide support, perspective and challenges (when needed) can allow us to explore our inner world safely and more deeply.

I regularly carry out training and receive supervision on a monthly basis and am an Accredited member of the NCPS.

Experience

I have experience working with charities supporting survivors of interpersonal abuse including domestic violence, controlling and coersive relationships and recovering from narcissistic abuse. I use a trauma informed framework and can help to make sense of confusing or distressing emotions. Together we can learn ways to soothe a heightened nervous system response that has become accustomed to being in ‘survival mode’ by finding healthy coping strategies that work for you. Processing difficult emotions and thoughts often begins with bringing them into awareness. Being aware of your ‘triggers’ and understanding PTSD can help you to regain control and give you reassurance that your brain is doing a great job protecting you. Recovering from abuse can include experiences of anxiety and/ or depression. It can feel like an isolating and helpless time; my focus is to help people rebuild trust in themselves, increase resilience and feel empowered to rediscover their identity.

I have some experience helping to manage chronic illness and the debilitating, all encompassing impact it can have. There is a natural grieving process that accompanies a limiting diagnosis, things you might have been able to do, things you might have loved to do that are now a struggle or impossible. A huge part of the process is rediscovering your identity. You are not your illness, it is a part of you.

I have an understanding of how neurodiversity can impact mental health and wellbeing in a world that doesn’t always make sense; some difficulties might include navigating the complexities of social relationships to sensory differences or burnout. It can be tricky trying to discover our authentic selves whilst also masking to fit into societal norms. Having an awareness and understanding of neurodiverse traits can lead to a positive identity that celebrates our uniqueness.
